‘Alyosha' - Original, Acrylic on Canvas by Izzy Winter - 2026

£2,000.00

“Here, there is no intellect, no logic, here it is a question of loving with one's insides, one's belly, of loving one's own young energies...

Do you understand anything of the rot I'm talking, Alyosha?' Ivan laughed, suddenly.

“Too well do I understand, Ivan: one wants to live with one's insides, one's belly - that was well said, and I'm terribly glad that you want to live that way,” Alyosha exclaimed. "I think that everyone has a duty to love life above all else in the world."

"To love life more than its meaning?"

"Most certainly; to love it before logic, as you say, especially before logic, for only then will I understand its meaning. That is how it has seemed to me for a long time now. Half of your task is complete, Ivan, and won: you love life. Now you must apply yourself to its second half, and you will be saved."

"You're already saving me, yet maybe I haven't perished! And what does it consist of, this second half of yours?"

"In having to raise up your dead, which may never perhaps have died. Well, now I shall have some tea. I'm glad that we're having this talk, Ivan."
